One of the most promising new surgical procedures is performed with a felt-tip marker
Orthopaedic surgeons call it “Sign Your Site”. And they’re advocating making it a standard operating procedure. It’s when the surgeon signs his or her initials with a marker on the site where surgery is to be performed while the patient watches and confirms. That way, the correct knee, hip or shoulder gets the operation it was supposed to. A simple procedure, to be sure. But it is reducing medical errors. So, until scalpels comes with erasers, partner with your surgeon to sign your site.
