AAOS Safe, Accessible Playground Build

San Francisco: Tuesday, February 7, 2012

Since 2000, the Academy’s annual volunteer build project—the award-winning Safe, Accessible Playground building program in partnership with KaBOOM!—has provided an opportunity to visibly support playground safety and give something back to the communities we serve by helping with the construction of a safe and wheelchair-accessible play structure for children.

2012 marks the AAOS’ 13th one-day volunteer build! When complete, the Academy will be leaving the legacy of a safe, accessible playground to a deserving community in the city of San Francisco where children with and without disabilities can safely play and exercise together.

This year’s Safe, and Accessible Playground Build site is Telegraph Hill Neighborhood Center (Tel-Hi), located at 660 Lombard Street. We encourage you to become involved by becoming a sponsor, a volunteer for build day, or both!

Join us for an experience you will remember forever! Come together with hundreds of orthopaedic surgeons, nurses, industry partners, state, and specialty society representatives and San Francisco community members.

The Safe, Accessible Playground will be built in one day on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 — the day the Annual Meeting begins. The day begins at 8:30 a.m. and finishes at approximately 2:30 p.m. Buses will run between the Moscone Convention Center build site hourly, and lunch will be provided at the location. No experience is necessary to help — seasoned project managers will be on-site to oversee the build.

Site beautification, clean up and other rewarding projects are available for volunteers that prefer not to work in the actual construction zone and for children under the age of 18. For safety reasons, children under the age of 18 are never permitted in the construction zone. However, adjacent to the building site, there will be activities for children of all ages and abilities – we strongly encourage their attendance! Select a registration option listed below:
