FIRST AAOS Family Fitness and Fun Park Build
New Orleans: Tuesday, March 9, 2010
Since 2000, the Academy’s annual volunteer build project—the award-winning Safe, Accessible Playground building program—has provided an opportunity to visibly support playground safety and give something back to the communities we serve by helping with the construction of a safe and wheelchair-accessible play structure for children.
2010 marks the AAOS’ FIRST Family Fitness and Fun Park! When complete, there will be equipment for balance, flexibility, strength and a walking/running track for aerobic exercise. In the middle of the Park will be a safe, accessible playground where children with and without disabilities can play together. The various activities of the Park will help reduce and prevent falls, build strong bones and give those recovering from joint replacement a safe place to exercise. The different stations will include descriptions of how to do the exercises, why they are important and injury prevention tips. This is truly a place where three generations – children, parents and grandparents – can get fit and have fun together!

We encourage you to become involved by becoming a sponsor, a volunteer for build day, or both!
Join us for an experience you will remember forever! Come together with hundreds of orthopaedic surgeons, nurses, industry partners, state, and specialty society representatives and New Orleans community members.
The Family Fitness and Fun Park will be built in one day on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 —the day before the Annual Meeting begins. The day begins at 7:00 a.m. and finishes at approximately 3:30 p.m. Buses will run between the Morial Convention Center build site from 6:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., and lunch will be provided at the location. No experience is necessary to help—seasoned project managers will be on-site to oversee the build.
Site beautification, clean up and other rewarding projects are available for volunteers that prefer not to work in the actual construction zone and for children under the age of 18. For safety reasons, children under the age of 18 are never permitted in the construction zone. However, adjacent to the building site, there will be activities for children of all ages and abilities – we strongly encourage their attendance! Select a registration option listed below:
