Committee Appointment Program - Candidate Evaluation and Selection Form

The Committee Appointment Program is located in the Member Services section of the AAOS web site (www.aaos.org).

To evaluate and select members for a committee or council position, click the Assess applications and select best candidate hyperlink. Log onto the system using your last name and member password.

The next screen lists, in alphabetical order by committee and council, all openings that the evaluator has been assigned to review. To view the list of applicants for any vacancy, click its hyperlink.

The next screen (Candidate Evaluation Options) contains two options: (1) Review a list of applicants and evaluate each one and (2) review a summary of each candidate's rating and select the appropriate one.

To review the list of applicants, click the Applicant List and Evaluation Form button. This will list each applicant. To review an individual's application, click his specific hyperlink. This will display his application submission. From this screen, you can also view current committee assignments, prior committee assignments, and current and past Leadership Fellow Program assignments. If there are no current or past committee assignments or Leadership Fellow Program assignments, there will be no link. Also included are evaluation summaries for past committee assignments (if they exist) and the applicant's two references. Detailed contact information for the references can be obtained by clicking on their hyperlinks.

At the bottom of the screen is the section for rating the applicant. A drop-down box allows you to rate each person as Choice 1 through 6, as Not Evaluated, or as Not Interested. You can also write comments concerning the individual's qualifications for the opening in a text box. (The rating and text area serves as notes to yourself; they are not visible to anyone else.) To finalize your evaluation of an individual, click the Submit Evaluation button; this action stores your evaluation and returns you to the list of candidates. To return to the list of candidates without finalizing the evaluation, click the Previous Page button.

After evaluating each candidate, you can now select the appropriate one for your opening. From the Candidate Evaluation - Options screen, click the Candidate Summary and Acceptance link. A list of each applicant and their evaluation rating and your comments will be displayed. To select a candidate to fill your vacancy, click the Accepted radio button and then click the Accept Candidate button at the bottom of the page. This displays the selected candidate's application; to formalize the acceptance, click Accepted. A confirmation page will then be displayed and an E-mail message will be sent to your staff liaison who will be responsible for notifying the candidate that he has have been selected to fill the vacancy; the staff liaison will also notify the other applicants that they were not selected. (If you do not really want to select this candidate, click the Previous Page button.)
