Sandra R. Gordon wins Golden Trumpet Award from the Publicity Club of Chicago
Rosemont, IL
At the 50th Annual Trumpet Awards Luncheon at the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago, Sandra R. Gordon received one of the most coveted public relations awards from the Publicity Club of Chicago (PCC). As the director of public relations at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), Sandra was the lead visionary and creative force for their organization’s multi-faceted special event “Seventy-five Years of Orthopaedic Surgery”.
The “Seventy-five Years of Orthopaedic Surgery” celebration exhibits the last 75 years of orthopaedic history, research, innovation and advances in patient care, and shares personal stories of triumph, medical breakthroughs and tribulations.
“This Golden Trumpet Award is really a testament to our members and the pride they have as orthopaedic physicians,” stated Gordon. “An extensive team of orthopaedic surgeons, historical consultants, patients and staff volunteered their time, dedication and personal stories to make this project a reality. Being able to see such a long-term project come to fruition, makes my job as PR Director at the Academy so rewarding.”
The books, films and Web site, aaos.org/75years, are three of the most comprehensive resources of orthopaedic history available. The Web site also includes a digital timeline documenting significant orthopaedic events. To date, several components of “Seventy-five Years of Orthopaedic History” have received 22 award recognitions from the public relations and communications industry.
Prior to joining AAOS, Gordon served as director of communications for the American Academy of Dermatology, Schaumburg, Ill., and senior vice president, corporate communications for the National Easter Seal Society, Chicago.
Named ‘PR Professional of the Year’ by PRNews in 2004, Gordon has also earned more than 400 national and international accolades for excellence in communications, including an Emmy Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and several Freddie and Pegasus Awards.
A Deerfield, Ill. resident, Gordon holds memberships in numerous professional societies, including the Public Relations Society of America, the International Association of Business Communicators and Women in Communication. She most recently finished her term as President for the National Association of Medical Communicators (NAMC). Gordon has also served on the board of directors for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Greater Illinois, and volunteered at the Palliative Care Center and Hospice of the North Shore.
