- New York Yankees’ relief pitcher, Joba Chamberlain, underwent surgery for career-threatening trampoline ankle injury
“Although trampolines can be fun for both kids and adults, they post a high risk for injuries, especially when two or more people jump at one time,” says John Purvis, MD, orthopaedic surgeon and spokesperson for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).
- Academy’s response to blogger’s accusation of Limbaugh support.
On March 8, a blogger listed the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (Academy) as an advertiser on the Rush Limbaugh Show. This is a blatantly false accusation. The blogger has since admitted error and corrected the false statement: http://ow.ly/9yZmj.
The Academy is a not-for-profit organization that does not pay for broadcast advertising and did not pay for advertising on the Rush Limbaugh Show. Any statement or suggestion to the contrary is not true.
The Academy does produce educational public service announcements (PSAs) on bone and joint health conditions. It is possible that a PSA that the Academy produced aired on the Rush Limbaugh Show. These PSAs are distributed to radio networks and stations nationwide and are aired free when there is time available. We do not determine when or where these PSAs run. They are aired solely at the discretion of the radio stations.
The Academy has requested that radio stations discontinue airing its PSAs in affiliation with the show. - A Nation in Motion: One Patient at a Time
Patient Stories Needed for National AAOS Initiative
The AAOS is preparing to launch a national campaign to illustrate the value of the care orthopaedic surgeons provide their patients every day. Right now, we are collecting inspiring stories of the millions of patients whose lives have been saved or who have returned to work and to their active, full lives as a result of their access to high-quality orthopaedic care.
Have an outstanding patient story or know someone who does? Visit www.anationinmotion.org before March 23, 2012 to submit.
The questionnaire on the site will invite your patients to answer one simple question: “Because of my Orthopaedic care, I can ____________.”
And, in late April, we will launch the campaign and our full, public website at that same web address, so, return to that site again, to participate and read these stories. Thank you. - Sports Medicine Media Guide: An illustrated resource on the most common injuries and treatments in sports
