Harry N. Herkowitz, M.D. is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in spine surgery and all spinal disorders. He received his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan and completed a spine fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania’s Pennsylvania Hospital. Dr. Herkowitz was named Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at William Beaumont Hospital in 1991 and continues in that position. In addition, he is the program director for the orthopaedic surgery residency program as well as director of the spine surgery fellowship program.

Dr. Herkowitz is the president of the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine (one year term). He is a director of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (10 year term). He serves on boards of all major orthopaedic societies, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and the American Orthopaedic Association. In addition, he is an editorial review board member of all of the major orthopaedic journals. Dr. Herkowitz has published multiple articles, book chapters and edited textbooks, most recently, The Spine, fifth edition.
