Francis Burns Kelly, MD Macon, GA
Frank B. Kelly, M.D., is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received his MD degree at the Medical College of Georgia, served a surgical internship at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, and completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the Campbell Clinic/University of Tennessee program in Memphis.
He has been in the private practice of orthopaedic surgery since 1978 in his hometown of Macon, Ga. He is the physician administrator of a seven-person single specialty practice, Forsyth Street Orthopaedic Surgery, and he currently limits his practice to non-operative orthopaedics. He serves as the Medical Director of Forsyth Street Ambulatory Surgery Center, currently in development.
He has been involved in community activities as a board member of his local Little League, the Central Georgia Hospice, the Georgia Industrial Home, and Stratford Academy.
Professionally, he served as a team physician for several high school, collegiate, and professional athletic teams. He has presented numerous presentations on total knee arthroplasty at regional, national, and international meetings.
Dr. Kelly has been active in organized medicine and has served as chief of staff at Middle Georgia Hospital, as president of the Bibb County Medical Society and the Georgia Orthopaedic Society, and, for the past seven years, as a representative from Georgia to the AAOS Board of Councilors. He was chair of the BOC in 2005-2006. He is also currently a member of the OREF Board of Trustees, the Willis C. Campbell Society and the 20th Century Orthopaedic Association.
He is a former member of the AAOS Councils on Research, Education, and Advocacy and served as a member of the AAOS Board of Directors from 2003-2006. As a member of the AAOS Board he has served on the combined AAOS/ABOS Task Force on Maintenance of Certification and on the AAOS 2010 Strategic Planning Project Team.
Dr. Kelly presented the welcoming address to the new AAOS Fellows at the Annual Meeting in Chicago in 2006 and he currently serves as the Chair of the AAOS Communications Cabinet. His responsibilities include development and oversight of the internal and external communication initiatives of the Academy.
He and his wife, Lawson, reside in Macon, Ga., and have two children and one grandson, Jackson.
