Jesse B Jupiter, MD Boston, MA
Dr. Jesse B. Jupiter was born in New York City and educated in the public school system in Valley Stream, New York. He graduated from Brown University with a major in classical studies. While attending Brown, he lettered in baseball and soccer for four years and graduated magna cum laude and in Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Jupiter received his M.D. from Yale University Medical School and interned at the University of Pennsylvania.
A two-year commitment followed as a general medical officer in the United States Public Health Service Indian Health branch with the Pima Indians in Arizona. His interest in medical education was enhanced with the development of educational programs improving primary care for both diabetic and arthritic patients.
Upon completion of the Indian Health Service, he began a year of surgical residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital and a three-and-a-half-year orthopaedic residency with the Harvard Combined Residency Program.
In 1980 Dr. Jupiter traveled to Basle, Switzerland where he completed an AO Fellowship and went on to a hand and microvascular fellowship in Louisville, Kentucky.
He returned to Boston in 1981 and began his academic and clinical career at the Massachusetts General Hospital. During his 23 years on the academic faculty there, he has had the opportunity to head the Trauma Service, Foot and Ankle Program, and currently the Hand Service as the Hansjörg Wyss/AO Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Dr. Jupiter has been married to Beryl Stephanie for the past 33 years and has two children; Stacy, aged 28 and Ben, aged 25. He remains active in sports, playing year round in a competitive soccer league.
